This South African Fashion Designer Sees Furniture Design as Fluid

Having already won huge accolades for his fashion design prowess, South African artist, Rich Mnisi, is setting his sights on furniture. With a new collection on view at Cape Town’s esteemed Southern Guild gallery, he is poised to extend his unique vision into another arena of design. While the designer is best known for creating bold, colorful garments that transcend gender, seasons and design disciplines, his new solo exhibition of collectible furniture pieces, called Nyoka, relies on vivid shapes and extravagant materials to make a similar statement. While Mnisi’s creations may moonlight as works of art, he says he designed each piece in the collection with practicality in mind.
