The Abuja International Poetry Festival recently celebrated African culture in the digital era, uniting poets, artists, and intellectuals in Nigeria’s capital. Held over three days, the event centered on “Afro-Futurism and Digital Culture,” exploring how technology intersects with African art. Organized by Nasara Creative, the festival included in-person and virtual sessions featuring poetry readings, master classes, and a Poetry Slam. Festival founder Bash Amuneni stated that the festival sought to merge African heritage with technological innovation, including AI. On her part, the festival director, Orewa Olujimi, raised questions about the future of African art amid digital advances. Highlights of the program included discussions on how digital platforms can broaden opportunities for African writers, offering greater publishing avenues. The festival showcased both traditional and modern expressions of African poetry, emphasizing the importance of cultural evolution in a digital world.
