Zambian police have arrested two individuals, Jasten Mabulesse Candunde and Leonard Phiri, for allegedly plotting to harm President Hakainde Hichilema using witchcraft. The suspects, reportedly hired by Nelson Banda—brother of fugitive lawmaker Jay Banda—face charges of practicing witchcraft, possession of charms, and animal cruelty. Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that the duo, described as practicing witchdoctors, were found with various charms, including a live chameleon. Their alleged mission involved using these charms to harm the president in exchange for a promised payment of $7,400. The arrests highlight a bizarre and concerning twist in Zambia’s political climate as authorities investigate the alleged plot further. Meanwhile, Nelson Banda remains at large after escaping custody in August while facing aggravated robbery charges.
