Seychelles Tops Africa’s 2025 GDP per Capita Ranking

Africa’s economic landscape in 2025 remains diverse, with significant disparities in GDP per capita across the continent. According to the IMF, Seychelles leads with the highest GDP per capita at $22,000, thanks to its thriving tourism and financial sectors. Mauritius follows at $13,100, while resource-rich Gabon ranks third with $9,000. Other countries like Botswana, Equatorial Guinea, and Libya also feature prominently, ranking fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively, thanks to natural resource wealth and steady growth. However, heavy reliance on commodities makes these economies vulnerable to global price shocks. South Africa, Algeria, Cabo Verde, and Namibia round out the top 10, reflecting mixed growth driven by a mix of industry, services, and natural resources. Rapid population growth, however, remains a challenge to sustaining per capita income gains.
