South Africa Rejects ‘White Persecution’ Narrative Amid Rising Global Tensions

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has firmly rejected claims that white South Africans, particularly Afrikaners, are being persecuted, calling it a “completely false narrative.” His comments come in response to renewed allegations from Elon Musk, who repeated accusations of “white genocide” in South Africa. Musk cited a political rally where members of the opposition Economic Freedom Fighters sang a controversial anti-apartheid song. The song, which was used during apartheid as a call to arms against oppression, was deemed hate speech and banned by a court over a decade ago. However, a 2022 court ruling determined there is no evidence the song incites violence and, as a result, deemed it protected under freedom of speech. While attacks on white farmers occur, experts stress there’s no evidence of targeted persecution of white South Africans.
