African aviation set to expand

2

Boeing predicts Africa’s commercial airplane fleet will more than double by 2044, reaching 1,680 aircraft to meet soaring demand for air travel across the continent. The company forecasts 6% annual passenger growth, driven by a young population, a rising middle class, rapid urbanization, and expanded airport connectivity. Of the new aircraft, Boeing projects there will be 856 single-aisle jets for short-haul routes, 240 widebody jets for long-haul flights, 90 regional jets, and 10 freighters. The expansion will create demand for 74,000 aviation personnel, including pilots, technicians, and cabin crew, while services to support fleet growth and operations could total $130 billion. Boeing emphasizes that a growing, efficient air fleet will boost Africa’s economic integration, intra-continental travel, and global connectivity over the next two decades.
