Empowering girls through boxing at Cairo’s pioneering academy for female athletes.
In Cairo, a small boxing gym is helping girls challenge social norms while building confidence and resilience. Founded in 2017 by Coach Sally Hassona, the Impact Academy trains young women from disadvantaged communities who often face early marriage, harassment, and limited opportunities. Beyond teaching boxing skills, the program provides mentorship, psychological support, and encouragement to pursue education and careers, including in STEM fields. For many participants, the sport has become a powerful tool for self-defense and self-belief. While female athletes still confront stigma in Egyptian society, the academy is quietly nurturing a new generation determined to pursue their dreams and independence.
