Africa’s startup funding landscape is showing signs of diversification in early 2026, with investors increasingly backing sectors beyond fintech. According to TechCabal Insights, startups across the continent raised $575 million from 58 deals between January and February. While fintech began the year as the leading sector—boosted by funding rounds for ValU and NowPay—momentum quickly shifted. By February, logistics and transport startups, including Spiro and GoCab, captured the most capital, while energy ventures surged after a major raise by SolarAfrica. Deep-tech is also making a notable entrance, with Nigerian defense-tech startup Terra Industries raising over $33 million. Even agritech, which struggled throughout 2025, showed tentative recovery signs. The trend suggests venture capital in Africa may be gradually spreading across sectors, signaling a more balanced innovation ecosystem across the continent.
