Africa’s Top 5 Countries for Quality of Life in 2025

Numbeo has released its 2025 Quality of Life Index, which ranks cities and countries worldwide for their overall living conditions based on factors such as healthcare, safety, cost of living, and pollution. For 2025, the index highlights shifts in Africa’s rankings compared to 2023. South Africa maintains the highest score of 152.4, experiencing a slight improvement from the 139.9 recorded at the beginning of 2024. In second place is Tunisia, showing significant improvement as it was not even on the index in the 2024 rankings. Morocco takes third place, the same as last year, while Kenya drops to fourth from second. Egypt also drops by one position to fifth, rounding up the top five. Nigeria, which was fifth last year, fell to sixth. The West African country’s numerous economic struggles, including inflation, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits, led to its decline.
