Winning the 2024 James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant is a major accolade for Chef Serigne Mbaye’s New Orleans eatery, Dakar NOLA, and an honor that will open American eyes to the wonders of African cuisine. As a fine dining establishment, it also represents an evolution for African cuisine in America, having previously been associated with the modest fare of Southern home cooking.
