Angola launches $4 billion gas plant

2

Angola has inaugurated a $4 billion gas processing plant in Soyo, marking a major step in diversifying its energy sector beyond crude oil. The facility, developed by Novo Consórcio de Gás (NCG) with partners including Azule Energy, Sonangol E&P, Chevron, and TotalEnergies, can process 400 million cubic feet of gas per day from Angola’s first standalone gas fields. Completed months ahead of schedule, the plant will supply natural gas for domestic power generation, industrial use, and LNG exports, boosting energy security. Minerals and Petroleum Minister Diamantino Azevedo highlighted that the project supports industrialization, including petrochemicals, ammonia, and urea production. The project also signals Angola’s growing role in Africa’s natural gas market.
