ZHA-led Team Unveils Benghazi’s 2050 Urban Vision

A multidisciplinary team led by Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled a concept for reshaping Benghazi, Libya’s historic Mediterranean port city, through 2050. The proposal pairs a Vision and Spatial Strategy with a Digital Planning Hub, an evidence-based mapping tool tracking urban growth patterns. The spatial strategy aims to reconnect Benghazi’s historic center with its waterfront and expanding neighborhoods via new transit and pedestrian networks, and to designate future employment and innovation districts. The framework also integrates sustainable water management and ecological corridors to support managed expansion. The initiative responds to Benghazi’s rapid expansion and the need for infrastructure investment while emphasizing adaptability and coordinated growth.
