Banana Trade Dispute Highlights Fragile Malawi-Tanzania Relations

In March 2025, Malawi imposed a temporary ban on certain agricultural imports, including bananas, aiming to bolster local industries and address foreign exchange shortages. Tanzania retaliated in April by banning all agricultural imports from Malawi, exacerbating the crisis for Malawian traders. With limited local supply and restricted imports, traders face significant income losses.
