Black Panther Star Connie Chiume Passes Away at 72

Connie Chiume, the acclaimed South African actress known for her role in Marvel’s Black Panther, has passed away aged 72. Her family announced her death on Tuesday, stating she died at a Johannesburg hospital following a medical procedure. Chiume, celebrated for her extensive career in South African television, starred in popular shows such as Rhythm City, Zone 14, and most recently, Gomora. She first gained prominence in 1989 with the TV series Inkom’ Edla Yodwa and earned numerous awards, including a South African Film and Television Award for Best Supporting Actress. Besides Black Panther, Chiume is also popular for her role in the Beyoncé-led The Lion King musical film. Born in Welkom to a Malawian father and a Zulu mother, she initially trained as a nurse and teacher before becoming a household name in acting. She is survived by four children.
