Afreximbank Launches Future Tech Live Entertainment Training And Canex WKND Internship Programme

To Upskill Nigeria’s Next Generation Of Live Event Technician

African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), through its Creative Africa  Nexus (CANEX) programme, has launched the Future Tech Live Entertainment Training and  CANEX WKND Internship Programme. This technical training and work-experience initiative is  designed to professionalise entry-level talent in Nigeria’s live entertainment industry across  sound, lighting, stagecraft, audio-visual (AV) and production assistance. 

Africa’s live entertainment sector continues to grow in scale and ambition, with concerts, festivals,  fashion shows and major cultural events increasingly staged to international standards. However,  the technical crews behind these productions remain in short supply, and many aspiring  technicians struggle to move from theoretical knowledge to practical, on-the-job experience. The  programme is designed to help close this gap by combining structured classroom training with  mentored deployment on a live, multi-day international event.

The programme combines a two-day intensive training workshop to be held on 29 and 30 October  2026 with an eight-day internship from 1 to 8 November 2026 during CANEX WKND 2026,  Afreximbank’s flagship creative and cultural industries event, taking place at the Wole Soyinka  Centre for Arts and Culture, Lagos, Nigeria. Twenty-five successful candidates will train under  experienced industry professionals before gaining practical experience with the sound, lighting,  stage and AV teams responsible for delivering CANEX WKND across all its venues. 

Day one of the workshop covers industry foundations, safety protocols, basic AV systems and an  introduction to production assistance. Day two focuses on core technical skills, including sound  engineering, lighting design and operation, and stagecraft fundamentals, before closing with live  system integration, troubleshooting and team coordination exercises. During the internship,  participants will work full shifts alongside professional crews throughout the build-up, show days  and de-rig of CANEX WKND 2026. 

On completion, participants will receive a certificate, a professional participant kit and verified  experience on one of the continent’s leading creative economy platforms, positioning them to  secure employment or freelance work in Nigeria’s expanding events market. 

Candidates will be selected through a three-stage process. Applicants will first complete an online  application, after which shortlisted candidates will undergo an online technical and aptitude  assessment. The top twenty-five candidates will be invited to the on-site training in Lagos, with  placements on the CANEX WKND internship confirmed at the close of the workshop. 

APPLY FOR THE PROGRAMME 

Applications are now open to aspiring technicians resident in Nigeria with a maximum of two years  of experience in the entertainment industry, in the areas of sound, lighting, AV, stagecraft or  production assistance. Applicants must be available for the full duration of the programme from  29 October to 8 November 2026. Candidates based outside Lagos are welcome to apply and  should be prepared to travel to Lagos for the training and internship.
