Chepngetich Foresees New World Record at London Marathon

Kenyan marathon star Ruth Chepngetich, the women’s marathon world record holder, believes a new world record could be set at the London Marathon on April 27. Chepngetich made history at the Chicago marathon, where she clocked 2:09:56 to become the first woman to run under two hours and 10 minutes. While the Chicago marathon saw her compete against men and women, the London marathon is a women’s-only event. Chepngetich will face a formidable field, including defending champion Peres Jepchirchir and Olympic gold medallist Sifan Hassan. Jepchirchir holds the women-only marathon record of 2:16:16, set in London last year. Chepngetich expressed optimism about the competitive lineup, noting its potential to push for a new record. With three Chicago Marathon wins and a world championship title, she’s preparing intensively for another historic performance.
