Chidimma Adetshina, who withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition due to a controversy over her nationality, has accepted an invitation to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria. Adetshina faced a xenophobic backlash because she has a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother. Following her withdrawal, Miss Universe Nigeria invited her to compete in Nigeria’s version of the competition, offering her the chance to represent her father’s native land on the international stage. If she wins, Adetshina will compete against Mia Le Roux, the newly crowned Miss South Africa, at the Miss Universe competition in November. Meanwhile, the South African Home Affairs Department continues to investigate the alleged fraudulent activity surrounding Adetshina’s citizenship status and will press charges if it finds enough evidence of wrongdoing.
