Civil War Reaches Port Sudan in RSF’s Boldest Attack Yet

9

Sudan’s brutal civil war escalated on Sunday as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a drone attack on Port Sudan—the seat of the army-aligned government and a city previously untouched by violence. Suicide drones struck an air base, a warehouse, and civilian facilities, causing limited damage but signaling a bold new front in the two-year conflict. Port Sudan became the de facto capital after Khartoum fell into RSF hands, and now houses UN agencies and thousands of displaced civilians. The RSF has intensified its drone warfare after losing ground in Khartoum in March. As Sudan remains split between army- and RSF-controlled regions, the fight for dominance has reached what was once a safe haven.
