The UN has revealed that bomb attacks on two eastern Congo refugee camps claimed the lives of at least 12 people, including women and children, and injured at least 20 others. In a strongly worded statement, the UN condemned the attacks, which occurred near the city of Goma, stating they violate international humanitarian law. It went on to state the attacks might be tantamount to a war crime. Both sides of the conflict, the Congolese army and the M23 rebel group, have accused the other of masterminding the attack. However, a US statement claims the attacks originated from territories held by the M23 rebel group and its alleged supporter, the Rwandan Defense Forces.
