Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich has broken the women-only half-marathon world record after winning the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen. The 25-year-old clocked 1:05:15, shaving one second off the previous record set by compatriot Peres Jepchirchir at the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships. Ngetich led the field from the start and maintained her lead to the finish. She crossed the finish line 50 seconds ahead of her countrywoman Veronica Loleo. The performance adds to an exceptional year for Ngetich, who also won the team half-marathon title in Copenhagen and the World Cross Country Championships in January. She previously set the women-only 10-kilometer world record. Meanwhile, the overall women’s half-marathon world record, achieved in mixed-gender racing conditions, belongs to Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey who set a time of 1:02:52 in 2021.
