Nigerian singer Tems has become the first female African artist to earn an RIAA Diamond-certified single after “Wait For U,” her collaboration with Future and Drake, surpassed 11 million certified units in the United States. The song, built around a sample of Tems’ 2020 track “Higher,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022 before winning a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance the following year. The new certification places Tems alongside Wizkid as one of only two African artists to achieve Diamond status in the US. According to Chart Data, she has now accumulated more than 20.5 million RIAA-certified units across her catalog, reinforcing Afrobeats’ growing global influence and cementing her position as one of Africa’s most successful contemporary artists.
