Plot Twist Picks has unveiled its selection of the 10 best African films of 2026 so far, highlighting award-winning productions available to stream free on YouTube. The curated list spans animation, documentaries, music, and short films, featuring works recognized by the Oscars, Emmy Awards, Webby Awards, D&AD, Clio Awards, and the Royal Television Society. The selections span the continent: Butterfly, an Algerian animated short about a Jewish-Algerian swimmer at the 1936 Olympics; The Deadly Quest for Gold, a South African documentary on trapped gold miners; In-Between, an Ethiopian film about a young migrant’s experiences in a foreign country; Patience, a Senegalese short exploring emigration and patience; Pan-African, a series of documentaries that explore the continent; and Lily, a Tunisian film about a lonely archivist.
