Ethiopia Launches Domestic Drone Manufacturing for Civilian and Military Use

Ethiopia has officially launched its own drone manufacturing industry, marking a major leap in the country’s defensive and technological capabilities. While inaugurating Sky Wing Industry, the company behind the drone production, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed outlined plans to sustain the industry. Among other things, his administration aims to support continuous research and local production of smart sensors. The drones, designed to operate at high altitudes, will have counter-drone capabilities to nullify potential airborne threats. They will also be equipped with AI-powered systems, boosting their offensive, defensive, surveillance, and intelligence gathering capabilities. While primarily intended to strengthen national defense, Ethiopia also aims to export its drones, positioning itself as a key player in the global UAV market.
