Zimbabwean art historian Barnabas Ticha Muvhuti embarked on a road trip through Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zambia, seeking hidden stories about artists and their creative environments. This journey, made possible through a writing fellowship with the Arak Collection, led to the publication of his book Chronicles of the Road: Five Nations, Five Artists. The book captures Muvhuti’s encounters with artists in their studios, shedding light on voices often overlooked in academic and literary circles. As a scholar of southern African cultures and intellectual histories, Muvhuti’s work brings fresh perspectives to African art and history.
