A new report by the African Energy Chamber reveals that Africa’s share of renewables in its power generation mix is projected to rise from 27% today to over 40% by 2030. The report highlights that geothermal and hydropower energy are already powering East and West Africa, offering cleaner alternatives compared to the fossil fuel-heavy north and south. Hydropower currently dominates in nations like Ethiopia and DR Congo, contributing up to 90% of their power mix.
