The relaunch celebrates 10 years of connecting independent creators in 94 countries worldwide, including 39 African countries, with buyers in 185 markets.
Afrikrea today announced its relaunch under its original name, marking 10 years since the site was launched. The return restores a name closely associated with fashion, art, and craft from independent creators across Africa and the diaspora.
Founded in 2016, on the premise of bridging the gap between independent creators across Africa and the diaspora and global audiences, Afrikrea has evolved from a singular e-commerce website into ANKA, a family of commerce products. Going forward, Afrikrea is where customers shop, whilst ANKA Pay and ANKA Ship are its B2B software offerings. The relaunch of the consumer platform marks a renewed commitment to its founding mission.
“Fashion is where culture, craft, and commerce meet. Throughout my career, I have seen that the strongest businesses begin with a distinct creative point of view,” said Matilda Ceesay, CEO. “Afrikrea is returning to the name that carries that point of view: a home for African and diaspora creators whose work deserves to be seen, valued, and built into enduring businesses.”
The return brings a decade of creative and commercial momentum into sharper focus. Since 2016, Afrikrea has generated more than $30 million in sales for creators. More than 74% of its creators are women-led businesses, serving consumers primarily in Europe and North America.
That audience is both digital and physical. Afrikrea has more than 700,000 community followers and 49,000 newsletter subscribers; its in-person pop-ups enjoy outsized demand, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales in less than a week. The website has also recorded more than 125,000 five-star orders.
The relaunch is anchored in a single belief: where a creator starts should never limit how far their work can go.
