Born in Sweden, but of Gambian ancestry, fashion designer Maimuna Cole is channelling her African heritage to create buzz-worthy pieces. In the process, she aims to elevate awareness of African fashion and to eventually contribute to the African fashion infrastructure by locating production there. In the meantime, she’s busy building her own universe and filling it with colorful prints and romantic openwork dresses that are attracting a growing fan base that includes Seinabo Sey, Sabina Ddumba, and Gabrielle Union.
