Lagos Fashion Week 2026 showcased the wealth of ingenuity that Nigerian designers have to offer. Akwete, the traditional woven fabric from Abia State, made a strong appearance at the event, used in suits, skirts, and mixed-material designs. Fringe emerged as a prominent detail on both runways and street-style looks, while sculptural, handcrafted statements such as oversized rings, feathered hats, and embellished hair clips replaced classic accessories. Designers also reworked familiar suits and skirts through deconstruction, unusual materials, and bold silhouettes. Additionally, presentations moved beyond conventional runway formats and into experimentation: IAMISIGO created an installation inspired by wetlands and material research, THISISUS used community members as models, and Weizdhurm Franklyn presented human mannequins. Finally, cultural collaborations and appearances by international fashion figures, including actress Yaya DaCosta, further connected local designers with wider audiences.
