What began as a hobby for Morongwe Mokone—crafting origami for fun—has evolved into Mo’s Crib, a globally recognized sustainable décor brand. Co-founded with her sister, Michelle, the company transforms recycled and non-invasive materials into beautiful, functional home items such as baskets, rugs, and planters, aiming to counter the throwaway culture of “fast furniture.” The venture, inspired by a market visit, allows Mokone to tap into a growing demand for eco-conscious living. As waste piles up in South Africa, Mo’s Crib offers a refreshing solution—blending style with sustainability. Now stocked in major US retailers like Crate & Barrel and Target, the brand not only promotes environmental awareness but also empowers communities, employing over 100 artisans, the majority of whom are women.
