Morocco and Senegal rise in FIFA rankings after AFCON

Morocco and Senegal ranking rise

Morocco has reached its highest-ever position in the FIFA men’s rankings, climbing three spots to 8th—its best ranking in history—despite losing the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final to Senegal. Meanwhile, the Lions of Teranga, AFCON champions for the second time in the last three tournaments, rose seven places to an all-time high of 12th. The tournament’s results triggered significant movement across the continent, with Nigeria and Cameroon making the biggest jumps by gaining 12 positions each. Egypt also edged up to 31st after reaching the semifinals. At the other end, Equatorial Guinea posted the largest drop, sliding 10 spots to 107th. While European champions Spain retain the top spot, the rankings underscore a powerful shift, proving that even in defeat, strong tournament performances can propel African teams to new international prestige.
