Namibia is set to introduce free higher education at state universities and vocational training centers beginning in 2026. This policy, announced by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah during her State of the Nation address, aims to eliminate tuition and registration fees, building upon the country’s existing provision of free primary and secondary education. With approximately 2.1 million Namibians under the age of 35, the initiative seeks to address youth unemployment and poverty by enhancing access to education. The reform applies to Namibia’s two state-run universities and all seven government-run vocational colleges, marking a significant step towards equitable educational opportunities.
