Nigeria’s President Names New Heads of Security and Intelligence Agencies

President Bola Tinubu has appointed new Director-Generals for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS). President Tinubu appointed Mohammed Mohammed as the new NIA head, succeeding Ahmed Abubakar, who resigned on Saturday. Abubakar, appointed in 2018 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, had his tenure extended in December 2021. Adeola Ajayi takes over as DSS Director-General from Yusuf Bichi, who was also appointed by Buhari in September 2018. Mohammed, with a career starting in 1995, has held various roles including heading Nigeria’s mission to Libya. Likewise, Ajayi held multiple roles, including State Director in multiple regions, on his way to heading the DSS. Tinubu urged the new appointees to enhance the agencies’ effectiveness and tackle security challenges through improved collaboration. He also thanked the outgoing chiefs for their service.
