Rabat’s Jewelry Museum Shines a Light on Morocco’s Artistic Legacy

Cultural desert clothing from Namibia and Morocco highlighting sustainable tourism practices.

Rabat’s National Museum of Jewelry offers visitors a glittering journey through Morocco’s cultural heritage, housing an impressive collection of traditional adornments from across the kingdom. Located near the oceanfront, the museum displays Amazigh silverwork, urban luxury pieces, and meaningful Saharan designs that tell stories of Morocco’s diverse communities. Originally established in 1915 within historic pavilions dating back to Sultan Moulay Ismail’s 17th-century reign, the museum recently underwent a two-year renovation before reopening in 2023. More than just showcasing exquisite craftsmanship, the exhibits reveal jewelry’s deep social significance in Moroccan life, from wedding ceremonies to religious celebrations. Through its interactive displays, the institution continues to celebrate Morocco’s living heritage and the skilled artisans who transformed precious metals into wearable art.
