Somalia Dismisses Concerns Over Territorial Integrity at Davos

Somalia remains confident in the stability of its territorial integrity, despite reports suggesting the Trump administration may recognize the breakaway region of Somaliland. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Yusuf Hussein, a senior presidential adviser, affirmed Somalia’s strong alliance with the US in economic and security matters, emphasizing no significant policy shifts since Trump’s first term. The potential recognition of Somaliland is linked to J. Peter Pham, a former US special envoy and advocate for Somaliland’s democratic progress and statehood recognition. Pham, widely expected to lead Trump’s Africa team, was also a staunch critic of the Biden administration’s “One Somalia” stance. Nevertheless, Somalia dismissed the concerns, questioning the rationale behind reigniting discussions on its territorial unity.
