South Africa and Nigeria are deepening ties through enhanced cooperation in the mining, oil, and gas sectors, following technical discussions led by South African Minister Gwede Mantashe. Nigeria hopes to tap South Africa’s mining expertise, while South Africa seeks access to Nigerian oil and gas resources and oil exploration expertise. The collaboration, part of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission, signals a strategic push for regional trade and investment. South African Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, who unveiled the development, also highlighted the Cabinet’s approval of new budget principles in support of national development. Alongside this, she announced new initiatives to reform the diamond sector, including a proposed 1% revenue contribution toward youth job creation and international marketing of diamonds.
