Six firefighters died while battling a bushfire in South Africa’s eastern KwaZulu-Natal province, with another two in critical condition, emergency services reported on Monday. The fire, near the town of Boston, is suspected to have been started by poachers trying to trap animals to kill. Emergency services spokesperson Roland Robertson confirmed that three firefighters died at the scene, and three others died shortly after being admitted to the hospital. He also revealed that one of the two injured firefighters is on a ventilator. The poachers are believed to have been injured in the event, but no arrests have been reported. This fire is part of a series of wildfires that have plagued KwaZulu-Natal for the past week, causing at least seven other deaths.
