A senior South African delegation, led by International Relations Director-General Zane Dangor, has returned from Washington, where it met top US officials to discuss bilateral issues and clarify Pretoria’s stance on contentious policies like the Expropriation Act. The US officials, including those from the White House and State Department, were reportedly “cordial and receptive.” The SA team addressed concerns that land expropriation without compensation targets white farmers, stressing the policy is not intended to violate property rights but to rectify historic inequalities. The delegation also visited the UN to promote SA’s G20 presidency, which emphasizes solidarity, equality, and sustainability—values at odds with the Trump administration’s stance.
