Sudan links Ethiopia and UAE to airport attack

Explosion in an urban area with smoke rising, buildings, and industrial structures in the background.

Sudan has recalled its ambassador to Ethiopia after accusing Addis Ababa and the UAE of direct involvement in a drone attack targeting Khartoum International Airport. Sudanese air defenses reportedly downed the drones, with witnesses confirming explosions and smoke near the airport. Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem stated the attack’s Ethiopian origin had been “conclusively proven,” calling it a betrayal by what should be a sister nation. The UAE has long faced accusations of arming the RSF but consistently denies them. However, the latest allegations mark the first time Sudan has publicly claimed attacks were launched from Ethiopian territory. If the claims of Ethiopian-UAE complicity are confirmed, they risk transforming Sudan’s internal conflict into a broader regional confrontation with serious diplomatic consequences across East Africa and the Horn.
