Sudan has cut diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates, signaling an escalation in tensions between the two countries. Sudan cited the UAE’s support for the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the country’s brutal civil war as the reason for the decision. According to Defense Minister Yassin Ibrahim, the UAE played a proxy role in supporting RSF offensives, including recent drone attacks on Port Sudan, which had hitherto been untouched by the war. Even though the UAE denied the claims, Sudan announced the closure of its diplomatic missions in the UAE and the recall of its ambassador. Meanwhile, the UAE calls for urgent international action to end the war and deliver aid, as both warring sides face war crimes allegations.
