Sudanese Army Retakes Presidential Palace in Fierce Battle for Khartoum

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has recaptured the Presidential Palace in Khartoum, marking a symbolic victory in its battle against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Since April 2023, both sides have fought bitterly for control, plunging Sudan into a humanitarian catastrophe that has left over 28,000 dead and displaced 11 million people. The RSF, which still controls parts of Khartoum and regions like Darfur, vowed that the fight for the palace isn’t over. Meanwhile, the SAF shared images of soldiers celebrating the palace’s “liberation.” The UN warns the ongoing conflict continues to cost civilian lives, with both factions accused of war crimes, including ethnic killings and sexual violence, deepening Sudan’s tragic crisis.
