Thanks to the internet, people can keep up to date with local and international news. Now, thanks to the internet, we can get a sense of exactly what people are looking for. Google releases a Year In Review report that shows the most searched questions, topics and people for the year. Of course we are primarily interested in Africa’s Google Searches and this is where we focused.
Africa’s Google Searches for 2016 included things like the U.S. elections, Brexit, the bombing of the St. Peter and St. Paul Churches in Cairo, the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and anti-government protests and clashes in Ethiopia’s Oromia region dominated Google search.
Africa’s Google Searches for popular people include the late Nigerian footballer and coach Stephen Keshi, late renowned Arab poet Nizar Qabbani, late musician Papa Wemba and current South African president Jacob Zuma.
The 10 most searched questions on Google were quite interesting and spanned across business, fashion, entertainment, health and relationships.
