Sudan government official discusses US visa revocation concerns amid nationality confusion.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has selected Tadesse Worede to lead Tigray’s interim administration. Tadesse, a TPLF commander during the 2020–2022 civil war, served as the deputy president during the immediate past administration. His appointment follows disputes within the TPLF that saw the party splinter into two factions. One of these factions, led by party chair Debretsion Gebremichael, has been accused of allying with neighboring Eritrea. Asmara fought alongside the federal government during the civil war. However, relations between both countries have since soured over Eritrea’s exclusion from the peace deal that ended the conflict. This context, as well as recent developments, has led to fears of renewed conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Nevertheless, analysts believe Tadesse’s neutral stance over the TPLF’s dispute could help restore stability to the region.
