Abu Dhabi National Oil Company is exploring investments in major refining companies in Africa and Thailand as part of a strategy to secure buyers for crude oil and grow its fuel-trading business. The discussions come as Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery prepares a $1.6 billion initial public offering to finance a major expansion. Aliko Dangote plans to increase the facility’s capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million, potentially making it the world’s largest operating refinery. The company is also planning a $16 billion refinery in Kenya, reflecting a wider effort to expand Africa’s refining capacity. ADNOC has previously traded Nigerian crude and supplied refined products to Kenya and Ethiopia. Its overseas push could diversify operations beyond the Persian Gulf and strengthen its position in Africa’s growing fuel market.
