The African Development Bank is actively forging a major new financial alliance with the Arab world, marking a strategic pivot in response to retreating Western funding. At a landmark meeting in Abidjan, AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah convened with the Arab Coordination Group to solidify a structured partnership. The talks centered on unlocking a targeted $50 billion funding package for large-scale, strategic projects across Africa. This shift aims to address the continent’s widening infrastructure funding gap, which has been exacerbated by recent global shocks. The new framework moves beyond fragmented aid, favoring coordinated regional investments in critical sectors like food security, energy, and climate resilience. This deepening rapprochement signals Africa’s determined turn toward Gulf partners to secure the long-term capital necessary for industrialization and economic sovereignty.
