S&P Global Ratings reports that African sovereign credit ratings have climbed to their highest level since 2020, fueled by economic reforms and stronger growth. This positive trend is supported by stabilizing economies, moderating inflation, and firmer commodity prices, which collectively may ease financing costs for governments. While external debt repayments remain substantial, led by Egypt, the continent’s fiscal health is improving, with average deficits projected to narrow. Resource-rich nations are benefiting from strong gold and copper prices, while reforms in countries like Egypt are already boosting investor sentiment. Still, S&P warns that global trade tensions and shifting alliances could disrupt this positive momentum if volatility returns.
