African Startup Funding Rebounds in Q3

By Tech Cabal·Edited by Editor TO·

African startups raised $2.49 billion across 315 disclosed deals in the first nine months of 2026, a 7.8% increase from the amount recorded across 403 deals during the same period in 2025. A strong third quarter drove the recovery, with startups raising $1.025 billion across 167 deals, compared with $785 million across 149 deals in Q3 2025. Nigeria led funding destinations with $624 million, followed by Egypt at $396 million, Benin at $345 million, Kenya at $297 million, and South Africa at $279 million. Energy, fintech, clean technology, and mobility attracted the most investments. African fund managers also secured $3.08 billion in limited partner commitments between January and September. These developments provide fresh capital for startups, although founders may need to demonstrate stronger unit economics and consider debt financing alongside traditional equity.
