Africa’s e-sports scene is booming, with the industry now valued at $66 million and expanding six times faster than the global average. According to data firm Stears, the continent was home to a staggering 350 million gamers in 2024, with mobile gaming accounting for 95% of all activity. This growth is fueled by increasing internet access and a youthful population eager to play. However, tech limitations, especially poor internet infrastructure, still pose significant challenges. As one pro gamer in Accra noted, lag and connectivity issues put African players at a serious disadvantage in global online competitions. Despite these hurdles, Africa’s gaming future looks bright, with momentum building and potential soaring across the continent.
