A prominent African business leader discusses succession planning with his daughters.
Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has formally expanded the roles of his three daughters—Halima, Fatima, and Mariya—across his vast conglomerate, signaling a deliberate and ambitious succession strategy. The youngest, Fatima, will lead commercial strategy at the energy division housing his massive Lagos refinery, in addition to her current role as the Dangote Group’s head of corporate communications and administration. Middle daughter Halima will expand her Dubai family office remit to include London operations. And Mariya, who joined the cement board following Dangote’s retirement last July, will take charge of commercial strategy for the conglomerate’s food and cement operations. The reshuffling comes as Dangote sets his sights on building a $100 billion empire within four years, with planned stock exchange listings for his fertilizer and refinery units.
