Airtel Money, the mobile money arm of Airtel Africa, is preparing for a potential listing on the London Stock Exchange that could raise at least $800 million through the sale of shares by existing shareholders. If successful, the listing will value the company between $8 billion and $9 billion, making it Britain’s biggest public offering since 2021. Airtel Money, which operates in 13 African countries, is the third-largest mobile-money company by transaction value. The business is increasingly focused on digital payments and transfers rather than traditional cash deposits and withdrawals. According to the CEO, payments generate higher-quality revenue and better margins than cash handling. Meanwhile, lending, savings, and insurance, which make up just 4% of the business, are expanding quickly. The company is also exploring wealth-tech services that could allow customers to trade shares on local exchanges.
