Algeria has launched a new oil and gas licensing round as it seeks to boost production and attract foreign investment. Branded “Algeria Bid Round 2026,” the initiative offers seven exploration blocks across the Ouargla, Illizi, Touggourt, and El Bayadh regions, which officials estimate contain hundreds of millions of barrels of oil and vast natural gas reserves. Under the new process, interested energy firms will begin the technical phase on June 1, with final bids due by November 26. Successful companies will sign production-sharing or participation agreements with state-owned giant Sonatrach by January 2027. Officials say the round could enhance energy security while reinforcing the country’s ambitions to serve as a major regional energy hub.
